PAST EXHIBITION

Director's Exhibition

October 2nd - December 29th, 2024

DATES

Michael Klein, Director of the New Salem Museum and Academy of Fine Art, presents our first Director’s Exhibition. This showcase of paintings unites three generations of artists devoted to advancing Contemporary Realism, highlighting the movement's evolution and resurgence over the past several decades.

Featured in the show are iconic artists including the late Nelson Shanks and Richard Schmid, alongside living masters such as Jacob Collins, Daniel Sprick, T. Allen Lawson, and Jeffrey T. Larson. These artists have upheld and transformed classical painting traditions, creating a distinct space in today’s art world. Their work, standing in contrast to Modernist and Postmodernist traditions, has inspired a new generation to pursue shared ideals through Realism. This legacy continues with Jeremy Lipking, Marc Dalessio, and Travis Schlaht—who have propelled Contemporary Realism forward while preserving the integrity of representational art.

The exhibition also celebrates a younger generation of talent including work by Alex Venezia and Rachel Li, whose art demonstrates continued vitality in the field and what the future holds.

Klein states “As NSMA Director and artist, it has been an honor to work with the Barletta family, whose vision has made this exhibition possible.” The Director’s Exhibition marks a significant milestone for the New Salem Museum and Academy of Fine Art, and we are proud to present these extraordinary works to the public.
